The LORD Said Unto My Lord - Acts 2:34

The physician Luke wrote how Peter spoke to the multitude gathered outside the house where the upper room was located. Peter said, “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope. Because you will not leave my soul in hell, neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; you shall make me full of joy with your countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. He seeing this before spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear”, and in chapter two and verse thirty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter tells the multitude how King David said, “the LORD said unto my Lord, sit you on my right hand” where we read:

For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he said himself,

The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand,

The verse begins, “For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he said himself, ... Luke began with the words, “For David is not ascended” which means “because, since and on account that King David of Israel whose name means beloved did not rise or go up” “into the heavens” or “into the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings”: “but he said himself” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, King David, uttered, declared and proclaimed His own self” the following words. Luke shared how “Peter” said “King David” “spoke” the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand,” Luke continued with the words, “The LORD” or “Jehovah or Yahovah” “said unto my Lord” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to my, David's, One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”, “Sit you on my right hand” or “be seated on my, God the Heavenly Father's place of honor and authority”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to “King David's” words which proclaimed how “Jehovah” instructed the “Messiah” to be seated at His right hand of authority.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn that “King David” did not “ascend” to Heaven, however, His descendant, the Messiah, was to be invited to be “seated” at God's right hand. God's order of salvation for mankind was provided in advance. Jesus was sent into the world to die for the sins of mankind, and He rose from the grave three days later. He continued upon the earth for forty days after His resurrection and then ascended to His Father in Heaven. Ten days later, on the day of Pentecost, Jesus poured out His Holy Spirit upon the people in the upper room, and now this multitude was hearing about Him. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with every one of them through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will study “Peter's” words and yield themselves to Jesus Christ who is the “Savior and Lord” of the world.

Next time Luke shares how Peter tells the multitude how King David said, “until I make your foes your footstool”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
