Luke the physician wrote how Peter spoke about Jesus to the multitude gathered outside the house where the upper room was located. Peter said, “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope. Because you will not leave my soul in hell, neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; you shall make me full of joy with your countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. He seeing this before spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he said himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand, ...”, and in chapter two and verse thirty-five of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter tells the multitude how King David continued, “until I make your foes your footstool” where we read:
Until I make your foes your footstool.
The verse begins, “Until I make your foes ...” Luke began with the words, “Until I make” which means “till the time I, God the Heavenly Father, brand and sort” “your foes” or “your, the Messiah's, hated ones, enemies and those who are at enmity with the Messiah” according to the following. Luke shared how the Messiah was to be seated upon the right hand of God “until” He subdued the Messiah's “enemies”.
The verse continues, “... your footstool” Luke added the words, “your footstool” or “your, the Messiah's, place where a conqueror places their feet”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to “King David's” words that said the Messiah would be seated upon the right hand of God until His enemies were conquered and under His feet.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn the time appointed for the Messiah, who is Jesus, to be seated upon upon the right hand of God's authority. God loves people, and He invites every person to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. However, there are many who will reject and refuse Jesus as their “Savior and Lord”, and thereby they exist as the “enemies” of God. (See James 4:4). Those who are not in alignment with God's plan of salvation exist as His enemy even though He is willing to forgive the sins of everyone who receives His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will not be named as “foes” of Jesus upon whom His feet shall rest.
Next time Luke shares how Peter tells the multitude, “God has made that same Jesus … both Lord and Christ”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
