Luke the physician wrote how Peter spoke to the multitude gathered outside the house where the upper room was located and said, “Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. He seeing this before spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption”, and in chapter two and verse thirty-two of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the multitude, “this Jesus has God raised up” where we read:
This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
The verse begins, “This Jesus has God raised up, ...” Luke began with the words, “this Jesus” which means “the One of whom Peter spoke who is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation” “has God raised up” or “has the Heavenly Father God brought forward, arisen and made to stand forth or resurrected”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the multitude that “God the Heavenly Father” resurrected “Jesus”.
The verse goes on to say, “... whereof we all are witnesses.” Luke continued with the word, “whereof” or “of which” “we all are witnesses” which means “we, Jesus' disciples and the other people in the upper room, each, every, the whole and everyone exist as ones who bear record, testify and attest”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the multitude that he and the others in the upper room personally “attest” to the fact that Jesus rose from the grave.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Peter” told the multitude who gathered outside of the upper room that “God the Heavenly Father” resurrected Jesus from the dead, and each of the people in the upper room were “witnesses” that this was true. Jesus died on the cross and was raised from the dead so people may be saved from their sins and live eternally with God. Over five hundred people saw Jesus after His death, (See 1 Corinthians 15:6), and their testimony serves as a witness to God's power over “death, hell and the grave” for all who yield their lives to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
Next time Luke shares how Peter tells the multitude that the people in the upper room, “received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
