Luke the physician wrote how Peter spoke to the multitude gathered outside the house where the upper room was located about Jesus. He said, “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope. Because you will not leave my soul in hell, neither will you suffer your Holy One to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life; you shall make me full of joy with your countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne. He seeing this before spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus has God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he has shed forth this, which you now see and hear. For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he said himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit you on my right hand, Until I make your foes your footstool”, and in chapter two and verse thirty-six of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the multitude, “God has made that same Jesus … both Lord and Christ” where we read:
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus,
whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
The verse begins, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, ...” Luke began with the words, “therefore let all the house of Israel” which means “then, wherefore, consequently and these things being so allow and permit each, every, the whole and everyone who belongs to the Jewish nation of Israel which means he shall be a prince of God” “know assuredly” or “understand, perceive and be acquainted safely and securely”, “that God has made” which means “that the Heavenly Father God has formed, fashioned and caused” “that same Jesus” or “the selfsame Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” according to the following. Luke shared how “Peter” concluded that every person within the nation of “Israel” should “safely and securely” understand that God the Heavenly Father caused “Jesus” to be according to the following.
The verse goes on to say, “... whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Luke continued with the words, “whom you have crucified” or “who you, multitude of people, drove down with stakes, impaled upon a cross and palisade” “both Lord” which means “equally the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah” “and Christ” or “and the anointed One, the Messiah and the Son of God”. Luke shared how “Peter” told the crowd of people they were responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus, however, God the Heavenly Father exalted Him to the position of “Lord” and “Messiah”.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how God the Heavenly Father exalted Jesus His Son to the position of “Messiah” and “Savior” even through the people in the multitude were actually responsible for His crucifixion. Jesus was sent by His Father God to die for the sins of the world, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Though some reject and refuse to receive Jesus, God His Heavenly Father made Him “Lord and Christ”, and those who are wise will surrender their lives to Him.
Next time Luke shares when the multitude, “heard this, they were pricked in their heart”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
