In Psalms chapter twelve David wrote, “The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things. Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?”, and in chapter twelve and verse five of Psalms David said, “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD” where we read,
For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD;
I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.
The verse begins, “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD;” David began with the words, “For the oppression” which means “because, since and on account of the havoc, violence, destruction and ruin” “of the poor” or “pertaining to the afflicted, humble and lowly”, “for the sighing” which means “because, since and on the account of the crying, groaning and lamentation” “of the needy” or “belonging to beggars, destitute and people in want”, “now will I arise” which means “at this time I, Jehovah God, shall rise up and stand”, “says the LORD” or “utters, declares and proclaims Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. David declared how Jehovah God would rise up and stand for people who are afflicted, lamenting and destitute.
The verse continues, “I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.” David added the words, “I will set him” or “I, Jehovah God, will put, fix, establish and appoint the poor, sighing and needy” “in safety” which means “in deliverance, salvation, rescue, welfare and prosperity” “from him that puffs at him” or “separate and apart from the person who inflames, snorts, exhales and breathes against them”. David wrote how Jehovah God declared that He will “deliver, secure and rescue” the “poor, sighing and needy” who are “afflicted and abused” by others.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn from David how Jehovah God comes to the rescue of people who are “poor, afflicted and needy”. Those who abuse them will encounter Almighty God, and no one is able to stand before Him. God loves people, and He is willing to have a personal relationship with every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus. He will also forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. We have an opportunity to relate to the God who protects and comes to the defense of the “poor and needy”, and He is well aware and will stand to defend the “sighing” of those whom have others have abused.
Next time David says, “the words of the LORD are pure words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
