Beholding Mischief and Spite - Psalms 10:14

In Psalms chapter ten David said, “the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and … lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net. He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones. He has said in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it. Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand: forget not the humble. Wherefore does the wicked contemn God? he has said in his heart, You will not require it, and in Psalms chapter ten and verse fourteen David asked, “You behold mischief and spite, to requite it with your hand where we read,

You have seen it; for you behold mischief and spite, to requite it with your hand:

the poor commits himself unto you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

The verse begins, You have seen it; for you behold mischief and spite, to requite it with your hand:” David began with the words, “You have seen it” which means “You, Jehovah God, have observed, perceived, given attention to, noticed and beheld the acts and deeds of the wicked”: “for you behold mischief” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, regard, pay attention to, consider and look down upon toil, trouble, labor, trouble and wickedness” “and spite” which means “and anger, vexation, provocation and grief”, “to requite it” or “to constitute, deliver up and avenge the mischief and spite” “with your hand” which means “by the use of your, Jehovah God's, powerful hand of authority”. David declared how Jehovah God has indeed observed the acts and deeds of wicked people, and He will avenge the troubles they have caused with His powerful and authoritative hand.

The verse continues, the poor commits himself unto you; you are the helper of the fatherless.David added the words, “the poor commits himself” or “the hapless, unfortunate and wretched relinquishes, leaves, gives and dedicates their own selves” “unto you” which means “to you, Jehovah God”; “you are the helper of” or “you, Jehovah God, exist as the supporter and protector belonging to” “the fatherless” which means “orphans and bereaved people”. David shared how people who are afflicted and unfortunate dedicate themselves to Jehovah God who exists as the supporter and protector of orphans and people who are bereaved.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through David how Jehovah God is well aware of the evil acts and deeds performed by the wicked. Though they believe themselves not seen by God, they are, and anyone who commits iniquity against people who are afflicted and unfortunate have the eyes of God upon them. God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal loving relationship with them through His Son Jesus. When they yield to Jesus, He points out sinful behavior toward others in their lives, and they are to employ His power to change. John the apostle wrote, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. (See 1 John 1:9) Let us all be reminded that God sees wicked behavior, and we are wise to praise Him for making all the wicked aware of His observation of their deeds and His willingness to change their lives.

Next time David says, Break you the arm of the wicked and the evil man, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
