If the Foundations Be Destroyed - Psalms 11:3

Psalms chapter eleven begins with David saying, “In the LORD put I my trust: how say you to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart”, and in Psalms chapter eleven and verse three David asked, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? where we read,

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

The verse begins, If the foundations be destroyed, ...” David began with the words, “If the foundations” which means “whether and in case the political and moral support, purpose and solid basis” “be destroyed” or “is torn down, broken through and utterly overthrown”, the following question must be asked. David referred to the “political and moral” basis being “torn down and utterly overthrown” as he asked the following question.

The verse goes on to say,... what can the righteous do?David continued with the words, “what can” or “wherein, by what means and to what purpose and ability are” “the righteous do” which means “the lawful, just, right and correct to practice, commit and systematically and habitually make”? David asked what people who are “lawful and correct” are to “do” when the “political and moral basis” for living has been overthrown and torn down.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David was greatly concerned with the “political and moral” “foundation” being overthrown and broken down. Should the “wicked” take over and replace Godly and righteous ideas with evil and pernicious ones, “righteous” people have no basis upon which to stand. The country or people who forsake the principles of Jehovah God and His Son Jesus have in effect “destroyed the firm foundation” upon which they endure and remain, and when this is allowed to happen, people who live in Godly, “right and correct” ways will suffer. God loves us, and His plan and purpose for mankind is enduring and everlasting, however, if we forsake His ways, put aside His ideas for government within ourselves and our countries, we will forsake our own preservation by Him. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the whole world, and because mankind tends to want to refuse His Lordship and govern themselves, they destroy the “foundation” of Godly principles in their lives and replace them with supports and purposes that will be destroyed and never remain.

Next time David says, The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD'S throne is in heaven, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
