In Psalms chapter eighteen David called upon Jehovah God and said, “There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yes, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire”, and in chapter eighteen and verse thirteen David said, “The LORD also thundered in the heavens” where we read,
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.
The verse begins, “The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice;” David began with the words, “the LORD” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “also thundered in the heavens” or “even so and indeed made a trembling sound like thunder within the visible universe, sky, atmosphere and abode of God”, “and the Highest” which means “and the upper, exalted and Most High God” “gave his voice” or “bestowed, granted, permitted, consecrated and dedicated his, Jehovah God's, sound and tone of uttered words”. David said Jehovah God made a thunderous noise within His “heavenly” abode and granted His words as the “Most High” God.
The verse goes on to say, “hail stones and coals of fire.” David continued with the words, “hail stones” or “thunderous and great hail from the sky” “and coals of fire” which means “and burning, hot, glowing and kindled embers of supernatural fiery altar fire”. David repeated his words about the brightness of Jehovah God which was enveloped by “thunderous hailstones and fiery burning embers”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David continued to use the elements of the earth and “heavens” to describe God's intimate involvement in his life. God watched over David, and he knew Jehovah would listen to Him because He was present at all times. God is the “Creator” of the world, and He watches over and protects those who relate to Him through His Son Jesus. When we believe and trust in Jesus, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. He will guard over us, protect us and manifest Himself through nature and His creation in any manner He desires. Praise be to our omnipotent God who is able to keep us in the midst of whatever opposition rises against us.
Next time David says the LORD, “sent out his arrows, and scattered them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
