All Gone Aside and Filthy - Psalms 14:3

In Psalms chapter fourteen David wrote, “the fool has said in his heart, there is no God. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God”, and in Psalms chapter fourteen and verse three David said, “they are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy” where we read,

They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy:

there is none that does good, no, not one.

The verse begins, “They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy:” David began with the words, “They are all gone aside” which means “the children of men have each, every, the whole and everyone turned away, departed and removed”, “they are all together” or “the children of men are each, every, the whole and everyone united and alike” “become filthy” which means “become morally corrupted and tainted”. David declared that every person has departed from God and become corrupt and tainted.

The verse continues, “there is none that does good, no, not one.” David added the words, “there is none that does good” or “there exists not one person who makes, performs and produces pleasant, agreeable and excellent acts and deeds”, “no, not one” which means “not any and neither a single person”. David wrote that not one person performed and produced excellent acts and deeds.

When we meditate upon words in this verse, we see how David declared everyone to have departed from God and become morally corrupted. No one did “excellent and agreeable” acts or deeds before God. This is the sad condition of mankind according to David, and even as Paul the apostle wrote, “there is none righteous, no, not one”. (See Romans 3:10) This is why God sent His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus died for the sins of all mankind, and even though they did not seek Him, became morally corrupt and tainted and performed no “righteous” acts, He still gave His life so those who believe and trust in Him may be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. This is why we should praise and honor Jehovah God and glorify Him for His willingness to reach out to all mankind who has no regard or acknowledgement of Him.
