In Psalms chapter eighteen David said, “In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears”, and in chapter eighteen and verse seven of Psalms David said, “The earth shook and trembled” where we read,
Then the earth shook and trembled;
the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
The verse begins, “Then the earth shook and trembled;” David began with the words, “Then the earth” which means “at that time the arable ground, territory, district and region” “shook” or “quaked and began to reel back and forth” “and trembled” which means “and undulated, moved and tossed”. David declared how the “earth” itself quaked and moved after he cried out to Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.” David continued with the words, “the foundations also” or “the base underlying even so and indeed” “of the hills” which means “belonging to the mountains or hill country” “moved” or “trembled, quaked, raged, quivered and were agitated” “and were shaken” which means “and convulsed and was shaken back and forth and tossed to and fro”, “because he was wroth” or “since and on account that he, Jehovah God, existed as hot, furious, burning and kindled”. David wrote how the very base “foundations” of the world were tossed to and fro because Jehovah God was furious and burning toward those who came against David.
When we consider the words in this verse, we discover how the “earth” “quaked, undulated and reeled back and forth” when the fury of the LORD God was upon it on behalf of David. God created the “earth”, and He easily can make it “tremble”. David knew Jehovah God would come to his defense when he called upon Him, and anyone who yields to God's Son Jesus aligns with His defense as they are forgiven of their sins and are promised everlasting life with Him. God loves people, and no one is able to overwhelm or conquer Him. Let us give Him praise and honor for His desire to have an intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus that insures provision and protection for us while we remain on the “earth” and also in the life to come.
Next time David says, “There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and a fire out of his mouth devoured”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
