In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, “you have girded me with strength unto the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies. They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty-three of Psalms David said, “You have delivered me from the strivings of people” where we read,
You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; and you have made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.
The verse begins, “You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; and you have made me the head of the heathen:” David began with the words, “You have delivered me” which means “You, Jehovah God, provided the ability to escape, calve and carry away me, David” “from the strivings” or “apart and separate from the cause, controversy and contention” “of the people” which means “belonging to the human beings both male and female”; “and you have made me” or “and you, Jehovah God, have put, placed, set, and appointed me, David as” “the head of the heathen” which means “the top, chief, front and beginning pertaining to the non-Hebrew people or foreign nations”. David declared how Jehovah God rescued him from the contentions of “people”, and He set David as the head and chief of the foreign nations.
The verse goes on to say, “a people whom I have not known shall serve me.” David continued with the words, “a people” or “a group, troop, tribe or nation” “whom I have not known” which means “that I, David, have not perceived, learned, discriminated or distinguished” “shall serve me” or “will labor for, be subject to and work for me, David”. David wrote how there were “nations of people” of whom he was previously unaware that would “work for and be subject” to him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David credited Jehovah God for being “rescued and carried away” from the contentions of people to the point of becoming the chief over them. He also was aware that nations that were previously unknown to him would now be his laborers and servants. God raises people up to positions of authority, (See Daniel 2:21) and David was promoted from the position of sheep herder to the King of Israel. People and nations served David because of His relationship with Jehovah God, and this same God desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes in, trusts in and relies upon Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God in Heaven. Let Jehovah God be praised and honored for His willingness to elevate us to positions we never thought possible as we place our hope and future in Him.
Next time David says, “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
