In Psalms chapter eighteen David wrote, “you have girded me with strength unto the battle: you have subdued under me those that rose up against me. You have also given me the necks of my enemies. They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not”, and in chapter eighteen and verse forty-two of Psalms David said, “Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind” where we read,
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
The verse begins, “Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind:” David began with the words, “Then did I beat them” which means “at that time and therefore I, David, rubbed away, beat fine and pulverized them, David's enemies” “small as the dust” or “as tiny as the dry earth, powder, ashes or rubbish” “before the wind” which means “in front and in the presence of the breath of air”. David declared that he “pulverized” his enemies so finely that they were like small “dust” in the presence of the “breath of air”.
The verse continues, “I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.” David added the words, “I did cast them out” or “I, David, made his enemies empty, drawn and poured forth” “as the dirt” which means “like the wet mud, clay or mire” “in the streets” or “within the outdoor highways, fields or chutes”. David said he threw out his enemies like they were wet miry mud into the passageways.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how David defeated his enemies completely. He “pulverized” them with the help of Jehovah God, and it was as though they were wet mud thrown into the traveled ways. God gave David his ability, and all power, strength and might comes from Him. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of the world, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and empowered to “conquer” all foes that come against them. Praise be unto God who provides us with the ability to withstand and pulverize the enemies who desire to destroy us.
Next time David says, “You have delivered me from the strivings of people”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
