In Psalms chapter nineteen David wrote, “The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether”, and in chapter nineteen and verse ten of Psalms David said, “More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold” where we read,
More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold:
sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
The verse begins, “More to be desired are they than gold, yes, than much fine gold:” David began with the words, “more to be desired are they” which means “God's law, testimony, statutes, commandments, fear and judgments are to be coveted, taken pleasure and delighted in to a greater degree” “than gold” or “than the precious, brilliant and splendorous metal of gold”, “yes, than much fine gold” which means “even so and indeed to a greater degree than precious and brilliant refined gold”. David said Jehovah God's law, testimony, commandment, fear and judgments are to be coveted and delighted within to a greater degree than the precious metal gold or refined gold.
The verse goes on to say, “sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.” David continued with the words, “sweeter also than honey” or “more pleasant even so and indeed than the gummy and sticky syrup known as honey” “and the honeycomb” which means “and the dripping down honey that flows from the comb”. David wrote how Jehovah God's law, testimony, commandment, fear and judgments were more pleasant than “the sticky syrup known as honey” and the “comb” from which it's sweetness drips.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how David knew the “law” and “commandments” of Jehovah God were savory. David loved God's “law” because He knew by the “law” he was going to live the best life he could live. God loves people, and His commandments and judgments are meant to protect and provide them with all they need to live. God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross because He knew people would violate His law with their errors, mistakes and willful transgressions. This would lead them to have to pay the penalty of death for those sins, (See Romans 6:23), and Jesus paid that price for everyone. Now all that is necessary is to trust in, rely upon and cling to Jesus and we will be saved for all eternity. God knows we will violate His commands, and He desires to forgive us, cleanse us and grant us everlasting life with Him. Let all praise and glory be unto God for revealing His law and commands to us and His willingness to extend His grace to us as we surrender to Him.
Next time David says, “Moreover by them is your servant warned”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
