The LORD Hear You in the Day of Trouble - Psalms 20:1

Psalms chapter twenty begins with the heading, [[To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.]] which breaks down, “To the chief Musician” or “to the overseer, preeminent and superintending choral director” “A Psalm” which means “a melody or poem set to notes” “of David” or “belonging to David whose name means beloved and was the second king of Israel”, and in chapter twenty and verse one of Psalms David said, The LORD hear you in the day of trouble” where we read,

The LORD hear you in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob defend you;

The verse begins, The LORD hear you in the day of trouble;” David began with the words, “The LORD hear you” which means “Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God answer, respond and pay attention to you, anyone reading these words” “in the day of trouble” or “in the period when distress, straits and vexation arises”. David desired for Jehovah God to “pay attention” to anyone hearing or reading his words when they are distressed and vexation appears in their lives.

The verse continues,the name of the God of Jacob defend you; David added the words, “the name of the God” or “pertaining to the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “of Jacob” which means “belonging to Jacob whose name means heel-holder or supplanter and was the son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham and the father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel” “defend you” or “exalt and set you, people reading David's words, on high”. David desired for the Supreme God of “Jacob” to exalt and set on high the hearers and readers of his words.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn to whom David appealed in his time of trouble, and he passed it on to his readers and listeners. David wanted Jehovah God to pay attention to people when they have troublesome periods in their lives, and the protection and defense of Jehovah cannot be impeded by anyone attempting to do so. God loves people, and His desire is to be involved in their lives when they have trouble, and He wants to be their “defense” whenever they have need. Because the greatest trouble of all is separation from God through sins, He sent His Son Jesus to die for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who yields to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Let God be praised for being willing to “hear” us when we have “trouble” and are in need of “defense”.

Next time David says, Send help from the sanctuary, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
