A Lion with Eagles Wings - Daniel 7:4

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another”, and in chapter seven and verse four of his book Daniel shared how he saw, “a lion” with “eagle’s wings” where we read,

The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it

The verse reads, “The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings:” Daniel began with the words, “the first was like a lion” or “the initial great animal existed similar and in likeness to a lion animal”, “and had eagle’s wings” which means “and the lion possessed wings like an eagle bird”. Daniel shared how the first animal he observed in his “dream and visions” was similar to a “lion” that possess the “wings” of an “eagle”

The verse goes on to say, “I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth,” Daniel continued with the word, “I beheld till” or “I, Daniel, beheld, witnessed and gaze upon the great animal that was similar to a lion until ” “the wings thereof” which means “the wings which were upon the lion” “were plucked” or “were picked and pulled off or extracted”, “and it was lifted up” which means “and it, the animal similar to a lion was raised” from the earth” or “separate and apart from the region, territory and world”. Daniel shared how he observed the massive animal that was similar to a “lion with eagle’s wings” until the “wings” were picked off, and the “lion” was raised separate and apart from the world.

Finally the verse says, “and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it.” Daniel concluded this verse with the words “and made stand upon the feet” which means “and caused to arise and come on the scene upon the physical feet” “as a man” or “similar and in likeness to a male human being”, “and a man’s heart” which means “and a male human being’s soul and mind” “was given to it” or “was placed, set and established toward it, the lion like animal”. Daniel ended this verse by referring to how the “lion like animal” was caused to rise upon it’s physical “feet” and the soul and mind belonging to a male human being was established within it.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel about the initial great animal that he observed in his “dream and visions”. This giant “lion-like animal” possessed “wings” similar to an “eagle’s wings”, and Daniel watched the creature until the “wings” were picked off, and the lion like creature rose to it’s physical “feet” like a male human being. The  soul and mind of a man were also provided to the lion like creature, and we shall learn more about this vision later on. For now let us consider what this must have been like for Daniel to see such a mental imagery. God was revealing His plan to Daniel, and because He is omniscient and omnipresent, God knows the past, present and future all at the same time. God wanted to redeem mankind from their sins which separated them from a personal relationship with Him, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days, when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth as we understand this “dream and vision” given to Daniel was meant to bring us His salvation.

Next time Daniel tells how he saw, “another beast, a second, like to a bear,”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Four Great Beasts - Daniel 7:3

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea”, and in chapter seven and verse three of his book Daniel began to tell about his dream and said, “four great beasts came up from the sea” where we read,

And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

The verse reads, “And four great beasts came up from the sea, …” Daniel began with the words, “and four great beasts” or “and four massive and domineering animals” “came up from the seas” which means “ascended and arose separate and apart from the large body of water”. Daniel shared how the “four domineering animals” arose from the large body of water.

The verse continues, “… diverse one from another.” Daniel added the word, “diverse” or “different, altered and unalike” “one from another” which means “each to the other”. Daniel said the massive animals were all different from each other.

When we think through Daniel’s words in this verse, we learn about his “dream and vision” as he observed “four” giant animals which arose from the large body of water, and they all differed from each other. We shall see what these “four large beasts” meant in our next few verses, but for now let us consider that God was revealing His plan through a mental imageries to Daniel. This plan will lead to the redemption of mankind through God’s Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave after three days, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we will exist as willing vessels for Him to reveal whatever He desires to show us.

Four Winds of Heaven Striving - Daniel 7:2

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters”, and in chapter seven and verse two of his book Daniel began to tell about his dream and said, “the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea” where we read,

Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night,

and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

The verse reads, “Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, …” Daniel began with the words, “Daniel spoke” or “Daniel whose name means ‘God is my judge’ responded and replied” “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “I saw in my vision” or “I, Daniel, beheld, observed and witnessed within my sight and appearance” by night” which means “within the nighttime” the following. Daniel shared how he replied and uttered that he observed within his sighting within the nighttime according to the following.

The verse goes on to say, “… and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.” Daniel continued with the words, “and, behold” or “and lo, look and consider”, “the four winds” which means “the four directions of the winds” “of the heaven” or “belonging to the sky and atmosphere” “strove upon the great sea” which means “were rushing and breaking forth upon the massive large body of water”. Daniel called upon his readers to consider the “four” directions of the breezes rushing back and forth on the massive body of water.

When we mediate upon Daniel’s words in this verse, we see how he began to tell about the appearances within his mind, and he initially observed the “four” breezes from the sky which were rushing and breaking forth on the massive body of water. We shall see what this “dream and vision” means in our future verses, but for now let us keep in mind that Jehovah God was giving him these mental imageries. God wanted mankind to know that He had a plan of redemption and salvation for them from their sins, and because those sins lead to death, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will help us to  have confidence in Him and the “dreams and visions” He gives to His beloved.

Daniel has a Dream - Daniel 7:1

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when Daniel was rescued from the power of the lions, King Darius made a decree, “that in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian”, and in chapter seven and verse one of his book Daniel said, “in the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream” where we read,

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

The verse reads, “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed:” Daniel began with the words, “in the first year of Belshazzar” or “within the primary annual set of days belonging to Belshazzar whose name means Bel protect the king” “king of Babylon” which means “the royal ruler and leader belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was known as Babel or Babylon, the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates” “Daniel had a dream” or “Daniel whose name means ‘God is my judge’ saw and beheld a mental imagery” “and visions of his head” which means “and sights and appearances within his mind” “upon his bed” or “on his, Daniel’s, place of lying and repose”. Daniel shared how he had mental imageries and appearances within his mind as he was lying upon his place of repose.

The verse continues, “then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.” Daniel added the words, “then he wrote the dream” or “at that time he, Daniel, inscribed and engraved the mental imagery”, “and told the sum of the matters” which means “and spoke about and related the chief and head meaning pertaining to the subject and affair”. Daniel shared how he made an inscription about the mental imagery in which he relayed the total account of the affair.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Daniel went back to his time in “Babylon” during the rule and reign of “Belshazzar”, and he referred to a mental imagery he and appearance that came into his “head” as he was reclining upon his “bed”. We shall see what this “dream” was in our next few verses because Daniel wrote about it, and he detailed all of it. For now let us be mindful that Jehovah God orchestrated these things because they would lead to the salvation of mankind. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to assure us that He is the author and finisher of the faith of all who surrender to Him. (See Hebrews 12:2)

Daniel Prospered in the Reign of Darius - Daniel 6:28

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when Daniel was rescued from the power of the lions, King Darius made a decree, “that in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-eight of his book Daniel shared how he, “prospered in the reign of Darius” where we read,

So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

The verse reads, “So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, …” Daniel began with the words, “so this Daniel prospered” or “therefore, wherefore and on this account Daniel whose name means ‘God is my judge’ became successful” “in the reign” which means “within the royal rule and kingly authority” “of Darius” or “belonging to Darius who was known as Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, king of the Chaldeans, who succeeded to the Babylonian kingdom on the death of Belshazzar; probably the same as "Astyages" the last king of the Medes (538 BC)”. Daniel shared how he became successful and promoted within he they royal rule of “Darius” the Mede.

The verse goes on to say, “… and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.” Daniel continued with the words, “and in the reign” or “and within the royal rule and kingly authority” “of Cyrus” which means “belonging to Cyrus whose name means possess you the furnace who was the king of Persia and conqueror of Babylon; first ruler of Persia to make a decree allowing the Israelite exiles to return to Jerusalem” “the Persian” whose name means “pure or splendid and was an inhabitant of Persia”. Daniel shared how he was also successful within the royal rule of “Cyrus” who was from “Persia”

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how he was successful under the leadership of both “Darius and Cyrus” who ruled over the Medo-Persian empire. God established Daniel within this kingdom even though he was a foreigner to them, and He is able to set up anyone He chooses for His purpose and will. God desires to use us in His Kingdom, and when we yield to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us who will guide us into all truth and empower us to perform the positions of authority he gives us according to His choosing.

Darius Crediting God for Delivering Daniel - Daniel 6:27

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when Daniel was rescued from the power of the lions, King Darius made a decree, “that in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-seven of his book Daniel shared how the Supreme Deity, “delivered Daniel from the power of the lions” where we read,

He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth,

who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

The verse reads, “He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, …” Daniel began with the words, “He delivers” or “he, the Supreme Deity Jehovah God, saves and sets free” “and rescues” which means “and extricates”, “and he works signs” or “and he, performs and executes miracles” “and wonders” which means “and unexplained acts” “in heaven” or “within the sky, atmosphere and sidereal heaven where God dwells and other spiritual beings” “and in the earth” which means “and within the region, territory and world”. Daniel shared how “King Darius” continued to speak of the Supreme Deity Jehovah God as He referred to the way God saves, sets free and extricates people while performing miracles and unexplained acts within the sky, atmosphere and sidereal heaven as well as the world.

The verse continues, “… who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.” Daniel added the words, “who had delivered Daniel” or “who, the Supreme Deity, rescued and saved Daniel whose name means God is my judge” “from the power” which means “separate and apart from the strength and might” “of the lions” or “belonging to the lion animals”. Daniel said “King Darius” also referred to the way the Supreme Deity Jehovah God also saved Daniel from the power and might of the “lions”.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how “King Darius” understood the power of the Supreme Deity Jehovah God after God rescued Daniel from the “lions’ den”. Darius knew God performed miracles and unexplained acts within the sky, atmosphere and world. This miracle working Creator God also desires to have a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit to help us know Him more and more as we grow in our relationship with Him.

Next time Daniel shares how he, “prospered in the reign of Darius”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Trembling and Fearing Before the God of Daniel - Daniel 6:26

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when Daniel was rescued from the power of the lions “then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den. Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-six of his book Daniel shared how King Darius decreed, “every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel” where we read,

I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

The verse reads, “I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel:” Daniel began with the words, “I make a decree” or “I, King Darius, set and appoint an order and command”, “that in every dominion” which means “that within each, every, the whole and everyone of the empires and sovereignties” “of my kingdom” or “belonging to my, King Darius’, royal reign and rule” “men tremble and fear” which means “people both male and female shake and be afraid” “before the God of Daniel” or “in front and in the presence of the Supreme Deity belonging to Daniel whose name means God is my judge”. Daniel shared how “King Darius” set forth a command that in each sovereignty within his royal rule and reign people were shake in terror and reverence in the presence of the Supreme Deity belonging to “Daniel”

The verse goes on to say, “for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.” Daniel continued with the words, “for he is the living God” or “because, since and on account that he, Daniel’s Supreme Deity, exists as the Supreme Deity who is alive”, “and stedfast for ever” which means “and enduring, permanent unto perpetually and shall remain unto perpetuity”, “and his kingdom” or “and his, Daniel’s Supreme Deity’s, royal rule and reign exists as” “that which shall not be destroyed” which means “the kingdom that will in no way or manner be ruined or hurt”, “and his dominion” or “and his, Daniel’s Supreme Deity’s, realm, sovereignty and empire” “shall be even unto the end” which means “will exist eternally and forever”. Daniel shared how “King Darius” declared the Supreme Deity to be alive and permanent, and His royal rule and reign will last throughout eternity.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Daniel how “King Darius” wanted everyone in the world to know and revere the Supreme Deity of Daniel. Darius understood that God is alive, enduring and that His “Kingdom” will last forever. In the same manner, God wants everyone to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days.  All who believe and trust in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will help them to grow daily in reverence, awe and adoration of the Supreme Deity Jehovah God who is the Creator of the Universe.

Next time Daniel shares how King Darius shared how the Supreme Deity Jehovah God, “delivered Daniel from the power of the lions”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
