King Darius Writes to the World - Daniel 6:25

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when God rescued Daniel from the power of the lions, “the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-five of his book Daniel shared how, “king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth” where we read,

Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages,

that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

The verse reads, “Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, …” Daniel began with the words, “then king Darius” or “at that time the royal ruler and leader Darius whose name means lord and was known as Darius the Mede, the son of Ahasuerus, king of the Chaldeans, who succeeded to the Babylonian kingdom on the death of Belshazzar; probably the same as "Astyages" the last king of the Medes (538 BC)” “wrote unto all people” which means “inscribed and engraved toward each, every, the whole and everyone of the human beings”, “nations” or “people groups and tribes”, “and languages” which means “and tongues or speeches”. Daniel shared how “King Darius” made an inscription that was meant for every person, people group and speech.

The verse continues, “… that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.” Daniel added the words, “that dwell” or “who inhabit, live and abide” “in all the earth” which means “within each, every, the whole and everywhere in the territory, region and world”;“Peace be multiplied unto you” or “welfare, prosperity and well-being increase and grow great toward you, the people of the world”. Daniel shared how “King Darius” addressed all the people living in the world, and he desired that prosperity and well-being to them.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how “King Darius” felt the need to address the people of the world after Daniel was rescued by God from the “lions’ den”. In addition to his opening greeting to them, he will add more in our next verses, but for now, let us admire the resolve of this “pagan” king. God wants everyone to be in a personal intimate relationship  with Him through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit how to live in “peace”, prosperity and well-being in keeping with His purpose and will for our lives.

Next time Daniel shares how King Darius decreed that, “every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
