An Angel Shut the Lions’ Mouths - Daniel 6:22

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and “the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep went from him. Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-two of his book Daniel shared how he told King Darius, “my God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths” where we read,

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

The verse reads, “My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me:” Daniel began with the words, “my God” or “my, Daniel’s, Supreme Deity” “has sent his angel” which means “dispatched and assigned his, the Supreme Deity’s, messenger and envoy”, “and has shut the lion’s mouths” or “and closed and shut up the orifice in the face used for eating which belonged to the lion”, “that they have not hurt me” which means “that they, the lions, have in no way or manner ruined or destroyed me, Daniel”. Daniel shared how Jehovah God dispatched His spiritual envoy to close the “mouths” of the “lions” so they would do him no harm.

The verse goes on to say, “forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.” Daniel continued with the words, “forasmuch as before him” or “inasmuch and on account that in front and in the presence of him, the Supreme Deity” “innocency was found in me” which means “purity, blamelessness and freedom from guilt was discovered within me, Daniel”: “and also before you, O King” or “and even so and indeed in front and in the presence of you, King Darius, O royal ruler and leader”, “have I done no hurt” which means “I, Daniel, have not performed or committed any harmful act, crime, wicked doing or wrong”. Daniel told King Darius the reason the Supreme Deity shut the lions mouths was because purity and blamelessness was discovered within him, and he indeed did not perform any wickedness or harmful act in the presence of the king.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Daniel told King Darius that Jehovah God the Supreme Deity dispatched his envoy to close the mouths of the lions, and they did not harm him at all. Daniel said “blamelessness” was discovered within him, and he did not behave in a harmful or wicked way before the king. God wants us to live in a righteous manner before Him and others, and when we surrender our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us to live in a righteous manner before Him and others. (See 2 Corinthians 5:21)

Next time Daniel says, “the king was exceedingly glad for him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
