The King Glad for Daniel - Daniel 6:23

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and “the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep went from him. Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spoke and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt”, and in chapter six and verse twenty-three of his book Daniel said, “the king was exceedingly glad for him” where we read,

Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

The verse reads, “Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den.” Daniel began with the words, “then was the king” or “at that time the royal ruler and leader, Darius, existed as” “exceeding glad for him” which means “greatly rejoicing on behalf of him, Daniel”, “and commanded” or “and ordered” “that they should take Daniel” which means “that they, Darius’ servants, were to lift Daniel whose name means God is my judge” “up out of the den” or “separated and apart from the cut out pit”. Daniel shared how greatly rejoicing King Darius was for him, and Darius ordered his servants to lift Daniel out of the pit.

The verse continues, “So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.” Daniel added the words, “so Daniel” or “therefore and on this account Daniel whose name means God is my judge” “was taken up out of the den” which means “was lifted and raised up from the cut out pit for lions”, “and no manner of hurt” or “and not any damage or injury” “was found upon him” which means “was discovered on him, Daniel”, “because he believed in his God” or “since and on account that he, Daniel, trusted in and relied upon his, Daniel’s, Supreme Deity ”. Daniel shared how he was lifted from the “lions’ den” and they discover that there was no harm or injury upon him at all because of he trusted and had faith in his Supreme Deity.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Darius rejoiced in an abundant manner when he knew Daniel was alive, and he ordered that Daniel be lifted up and taken from the pit cut out for lions. God rescued Daniel from the lions den, and God desires to rescue every person who believes and trusts in His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the grave after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to trust Him even when we are in a “pit” “of lions”.

Next time Daniel shares how, “they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
