Daniel has a Dream - Daniel 7:1

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how he prayed to God even though a law was made that no one was to pray to any god or man for thirty days, and for this reason he was “cast into the den of lions” and when Daniel was rescued from the power of the lions, King Darius made a decree, “that in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian”, and in chapter seven and verse one of his book Daniel said, “in the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream” where we read,

In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.

The verse reads, “In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed:” Daniel began with the words, “in the first year of Belshazzar” or “within the primary annual set of days belonging to Belshazzar whose name means Bel protect the king” “king of Babylon” which means “the royal ruler and leader belonging to Babylon whose name means confusion (by mixing) and was known as Babel or Babylon, the ancient site and/or capital of Babylonia (modern Hillah) situated on the Euphrates” “Daniel had a dream” or “Daniel whose name means ‘God is my judge’ saw and beheld a mental imagery” “and visions of his head” which means “and sights and appearances within his mind” “upon his bed” or “on his, Daniel’s, place of lying and repose”. Daniel shared how he had mental imageries and appearances within his mind as he was lying upon his place of repose.

The verse continues, “then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.” Daniel added the words, “then he wrote the dream” or “at that time he, Daniel, inscribed and engraved the mental imagery”, “and told the sum of the matters” which means “and spoke about and related the chief and head meaning pertaining to the subject and affair”. Daniel shared how he made an inscription about the mental imagery in which he relayed the total account of the affair.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Daniel went back to his time in “Babylon” during the rule and reign of “Belshazzar”, and he referred to a mental imagery he and appearance that came into his “head” as he was reclining upon his “bed”. We shall see what this “dream” was in our next few verses because Daniel wrote about it, and he detailed all of it. For now let us be mindful that Jehovah God orchestrated these things because they would lead to the salvation of mankind. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit to assure us that He is the author and finisher of the faith of all who surrender to Him. (See Hebrews 12:2)

Next time Daniel begins to tell about his dream and says, “the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
