Inexcusable Judges Romans 2:1

Paul the apostle told the church members in Rome about people to who rejected God, and they “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them”, and in chapter two and verse one of Romans, Paul shared how every person is, “inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are that judges” where we read:

Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are that judges: for wherein you judges another, you condemn yourself; for you that judges do the same things.

The verse begins, “Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whosoever you are that judges:” Paul began with the word, “therefore” or “whereof and on account of” “you are inexcusable” which means “the people to whom Paul refers are without defense or excuse”, “O man” which refers to “O human being whether male or female” “whosoever” which means “each, every, the whole and everyone of” “you are that judges” or “the people to whom Paul refers who puts asunder, to picks out, selects, chooses, and pronounces an opinion concerning right and wrong”. Paul declared people who “judge” others as “without defense and excuse” themselves.

The verse goes on to say, “for wherein you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you that judge do the same things.” Paul added the word, “for” which means “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “wherein you” or “by that the person to whom Paul refers” “judge another” or “put asunder, to pick out, select, choose, and pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong”, “you condemn yourself” which means “the people to whom Paul refers give judgment against and judge themselves worthy of punishment”; “for you” or “because and since the people to whom Paul refers” “that judge” which means “who put asunder, to pick out, select, choose, and pronounce an opinion concerning right and wrong” “do the same things” which refers to “perform, fashion and form the like and equal things”. Paul shared how people who “judge” others actually “judge” themselves because they do like and similar things.

When we meditate upon these words of Paul, we see how every person is guilty of “sinning” against God. Though people violate God's laws and ways in different fashion, no one is without fault. Jesus knew this, and since the penalty for such behavior is “physical and spiritual death” which separates from God, He came to earth to pay the price for such “sinful” people. When a person “judges” someone else, they actually “condemn” themselves because they too have violated God's law. Those who are wise shall consider Paul's words and understand, all are “guilty” before God, and everyone has an opportunity to receive the “good news” of Jesus Christ who paid the price for their “guilt”.

Next time we see Paul share how he and his companions in travel, are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things, so read ahead
