The Invisible Things Clearly Seen Romans 1:20

Paul the apostle told the church members in Rome, “ the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness”, and he added, “Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it unto them.” In chapter one and verse twenty of Romans, Paul told with the church members how, “the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen” where we read:

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

The verse begins, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, ...” Paul began with the word, “for” or “even as, indeed, no doubt, seeing then, verily and therefore” “the invisible things” or “the unseen or things which cannot be seen” “of him” which refers to “God Almighty” “from the creation” which means “in the founding, establishing and building origin” “of the world” which means “the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages and pleasures” “are clearly seen” or “looked upon and viewed from on high, perceived and understood” “being understood” which means “having perception, understanding and consideration” “ by the things that are made” which means “by the product, fabric or workmanship formed and fashioned”. Paul shared how God's “creation” is able to perceive things which naturally are “unseen”.

The verse continues, “... even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” Paul added the words, “even his” which means “both and also God's” “eternal power” or “everlasting and enduring strength, ability and influence” “and Godhead” which means “divinity or divine nature”; “so that” or “in order that” “they are without” which means “the creation of God does not have, hold, own or possess any” “excuse” or “cannot be defended, is inexcusable and without defense”. There is “no defense” for God's created beings not perceiving His “strength, ability, influence and divinity”.

When we consider Paul's words, we notice how ominous it is for God's creation not to “perceive” Him as Creator. Though God is “invisible” and “unseen” by the natural eye, that which He has created reveals Him to all who observe. God's power and divinity are demonstrated within and throughout the world in nature, the sky, the atmosphere and within people. The marvel of God's great workmanship is seen in plants, animals, stars, etc., and they all lead to a divine designer. Jesus Christ came to reveal His Father to the world, and those who take the time to explore God's wonderful universe, shall not only come to realize there really is a God, but shall also learn that His Son Jesus has provided a way for us to live eternally with Him. May all who read these words know, understand and perceive the “invisible” and mighty Creator God.

Next time Paul tells the church members about, “when they knew God, they glorified him not as God”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then,
