To Them Who Do Not Obey the Truth Romans 2:8

Paul the apostle told the church members in Rome how God, “ will render to every man according to his deeds”, and he added, “To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life” In chapter two and verse eight of Romans, Paul shared concerning, “them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth” where we read:

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth,
but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

The verse begins, “But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, ...” Paul began with the word, “but” which is a disassociation conjunction that means what is about to be written takes precedence over what was just state “unto them” which means “toward the people” “that are contentious” or “who are electioneering or intriguing for office, partisan and fractious”, “and do not obey” or “do not comply with, refuse and withhold belief and obedience toward” “the truth” which refers to “that which is true in any matter under consideration, reality, fact and certainly”. Paul referred to people who are “partisan and fractious” and “refuse to comply” with God's truth.

The verse goes on to say, “... but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,” Paul added the word, “but” which means “moreover and” “obey unrighteousness” or “comply with, accept and believe injustice and deeds which violate law and justice”, “indignation” which means “passionate anger, heat, boiling up, ardor and fierceness” “and wrath” or “anger, temper, impulse and violent emotion”. These who refuse to “obey God's truth” “comply with” “injustice” and “violations to God's law and justice, passionate ardor, fierceness and violent emotion”.

When we think through words of Paul, we see the contrast of those who “by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life” and those who are “contentious, and do not obey God's truth” and follow after “unrighteousness, indignation and wrath”. Though God had a design for people to live in a manner that was “compliant” with Him, people “refused” and turned to their own ways that leads to destruction. Jesus Christ was sent to save people from their obstinacy and bring them into a full relationship with God the Father. He died for the sins of every person so all who will “believe and trust” in Him may have fellowship with God the Father.

Next time Paul shares about, “tribulation and anguish”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
