All the City Gathered - Mark 1:33

Mark wrote as Jesus and his disciples, “were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them. And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-three of his book, Mark wrote how, “all the city was gathered together” where we read:

And all the city was gathered together at the door.

The verse reads, “And all the city ... Mark began with the words, “and all” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone” “the city”or “within the dwelling place, habitation and abode”. Mark shared how every person in the city of Capernaum did the following.

The verse continues, “... was gathered together at the door.” Mark added the words, “was gathered together” which means “was assembled and collected together” “at the door” which means “at the door and entrance way of Simon's house”. Mark shared how everyone in the “city” was “assembled” at the door of “Simon's” house.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the people within the city of Capernaum were “all” “gathered together” at the door of “Simon's house” after they heard of Jesus' power over “sickness, disease and unclean spirits”. God loves people, and He promised to meet the “needs” “according to His riches in glory” of those who believe and trust in Him . (See Philippians 4:19) God's desire is to “save” people from their “sins” through belief and trust in His Son Jesus, and when they put their “faith and trust” in Him, He not only will meet their “needs”, but also grant them “everlasting life”.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus, “healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
