Simon and Others Follow Jesus - Mark 1:36

Mark wrote how, “at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed”, and in chapter one and verse thirty-six of his book, Mark wrote how, “Simon” and others “followed” Jesus where we read:

And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

The verse reads, “And Simon and they that were with him ... Mark began with the words, “and Simon” which refers to “the disciples whose name means a rock or stone”, “and they that were with him” which means “and the other disciples who were with Simon”. Mark shared how Jesus' disciple “Simon” and the other disciples did what happened next.

The verse continues, “... followed after him.” Mark added the words, “followed” which means “hunted and searched” “after him” which means “for Jesus”. Mark shared how “Simon and they that were with him” began to “search” for Jesus.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we discover “Simon and the disciples” began to “seek” Jesus after He left for the desert place to pray. We can imagine the disciples waking up, finding that Jesus left them and how they immediately went to “look for” Him. These disciples wanted to “follow Jesus” because it is wise to discover where He is. God's desire is to have a personal relationship with every person, and those who “seek” Him shall find that He is very near. Follow Him and believe.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus' disciples told Him, “all men seek for you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
