Simon's Mother in Law was Sick - Mark 1:30

Mark wrote when Jesus and His disciples, “were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John”, and in chapter one and verse thirty of his book, Mark wrote how, “Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever” where we read:

But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

The verse reads, “But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, ... Mark began words, “But Simon” whose name means “a rock or stone”, “wife's mother” or “the mother of Simon” “lay” which means “was lain down and prostrate” “sick of a fever” or “ill with heat like a fever in her body”. Mark shared how the “mother in law” of “Simon” was “sick” and had a “fever”.

The verse continues, “... and anon they tell him of her.” Mark added the words, “and anon” which means “and straightway, immediately and forthwith” “they tell him of her” or “the disciples or people within Simon's house spoke to Jesus about her”. Mark shared how the people within “Simon's house” told Jesus about his “mother in law” and her sickness.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how “Simon's” mother in law was sick, and the fact that she had a “fever” indicates there was some sort of “infection” or virus that was attacking her body. Those within the house told Jesus about her illness. Jesus was the best source with which to share this news, and the people in the house knew it. Jesus is the “Savior”, and His desire is to have all people come into a relationship with Him and His Father God. Those who are “sick” and “well” may come to Jesus who is willing to rescue and bring “salvation” to all who have need.

Next time Mark shares what happened when Jesus, “came and took her by the hand”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
