Jesus Driven into the Wilderness - Mark 1:12

Mark wrote how John the Baptist said, “There comes one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him. And there came a voice from heaven, saying, You are my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”, and in chapter one and verse twelve of his book, Mark wrote, “immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness” where we read:

And immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness.

The verse reads, “And immediately the Spirit drove him ... Mark began words, “and immediately” which means “and straightaway and forthwith” “the Spirit” which means “the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit, coequal, coeternal with the Father and the Son” “drove him” or “sent Jesus within influence and compelling”. Mark shared how God's Holy Spirit sent Jesus away “immediately” after God the Father spoke from “heaven”.

The verse goes on to say, “... into the wilderness.” Mark continued with the words, “into the wilderness” which means “into the solitary, lonely, desolate and uninhabited place”. Mark shared how the “Holy Spirit” sent Jesus into the “solitary and uninhabited” place.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see another directive given to Jesus. This time Jesus was “sent” into the “wilderness” by His “Spirit”, and there the next step would be given to Him. God had a plan for the “salvation” of mankind, and when a person realizes Jesus is the Messiah because He obeyed and fulfilled every step given to Him, their next step is to repent of their sins and yield their lives to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.

Next time Mark writes how Jesus, “was there in the wilderness forty days”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
