Two Red Flags

Why can I not the child did bray

the ocean wants me thus to play

And caps with white the torrent waves

Appeals me thus to come it's way

But dad said nay thou must not do

For two red flags be warning you

The danger there upon the foam

Be set to bring thy body harm

Insistent though the ready chap

To this ignore the father’s rant

And venture out upon his own

For he knew more than daddy’s groan

And fun he had for moments few

While playing there among the dew

Till riptide had him in its grip

To fight against he not equipped

And struggle did the boy now flail

With passioned pleas did not avail

For trapped within the ocean’s grasp

His breath did rush toward the last

No prayer nor plea nor desperate cry

Could help the foolish lad comply

With danger told him thus before

And now he’ll float upon the shore

And so with sin like ocean’s plea

Doth invite thee play for free

Enjoy the waves of wicked run

And bend thy life toward careless fun

But trapped you’ll be by torrent waves

With ne’er a hope as constant slave

To evil’s snare upon thy life

A desperate soul now filled with strife

Till thus at last sin’s mark be laid

And takes thy life in troubled state

Until thou rest upon the shore

And view red flags thou didst ignore
