Women Following Jesus - Matthew 27:55

Matthew the apostle wrote, “Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God”, and in chapter twenty-seven and verse fifty-five of his book, Matthew wrote how, “many women were there beholding afar off” where we read:

And many women were there beholding afar off,

which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

The verse reads, “And many women were there beholding afar off, ...” Matthew began words, “and many women” which means “and a good number and numerous female human beings” “were there beholding afar off” which means “were looking and observing the events of the cross from a far distance as spectators”. Matthew shared how “many” women were watching the events surrounding Jesus' crucifixion from far away.

The verse goes on to say, “... which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:” Matthew continued with the words, “which followed Jesus” or “who attended to and accompanied Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “from Galilee” or “out of the region of northern Palestine which is bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel, on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan”, “ministering unto him” which means “serving and attending to Jesus”. Matthew shared how these women “followed” Jesus and served Him .

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we notice another group of people observing the crucifixion of Jesus. Matthew mentioned the “women” who attended to Jesus and His disciples as they traveled from place to place. God notices all people who “serve” Him, and when they have faith and trust in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they align themselves in a relationship with God that shall last forever and ever.

Next time Matthew wrote among the women were, “Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
