Immer, Hanani and Zebadiah - Ezra 10:20

In the book of Ezra, Ezra said he and certain chief of the fathers, made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month. And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah. And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty of Ezra, Ezra mentioned, “the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah”,where we read,

And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.

The verse reads, And of the sons of Immer;” Ezra began with the words, “and of the sons” or “and pertaining to the male offspring and progeny “of Immer” or “belonging to Immer whose name means he has said”. Ezra included the male offspring of “Immer” in the group of men from Israel who separated from the pagan women they married.

The verse continues, Hanani, and Zebadiah. Ezra added the word, “Hanani” whose name means “gracious”, “and Zebadiah” whose name means “endowment of Jehovah”. Ezra added “Hanani and Zebadiah” to the list of the men of Israel who married pagan foreign wives and separated from them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about the male offspring of “Immer” named “Hanani and Zebadiah” who were separated from the pagan women they married. In other words, these men chose to humble themselves, repent of their wicked ways and yield to God. God wants the same for us, and because we have sin in our lives, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the sons of Harim”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
