In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, “I separated twelve of the chief of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them, and weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering of the house of our God”, and he told them, “Watch you, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chief of the priests and the Levites, and chief of the fathers of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty of Ezra, Ezra said what to do with, “the weight of silver, gold and vessels” where we read,
So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels,
to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.
The verse reads, “So took the priests and the Levites the weight of the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, ..” Ezra began with the words, “so took the priests” which means “wherefore, therefore, then and these thing taken into account the spiritual leaders and rulers” “and the Levites” or “and the descendants of Levi whose name means joined to and werespecially set aside by God for His service took up and received” “the weight of the silver” which means “the full measure pertaining to the silver metal”, “and the gold” or “and the gold metal”, “and the vessels” which means “and the articles or implements” and did the following with them. Ezra shared how the “priests and Levites” received the full measure of the silver, gold and implements for the following purpose.
The verse goes on to say, “… to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.” Ezra continued with the words, “to bring them to Jerusalem” which means “toward Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split” “unto the house” which means “to the habitation, abode and dwelling place” “of our God” or “belonging to our, Ezra, the chief men and the Nethinims', Supreme Deity”. Ezra shared how “Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them” carried the silver, gold and implements to the dwelling place of the Supreme Deity Jehovah within “Jerusalem”.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how “Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them” obeyed his commission as they carried the silver, gold and implements to the spiritual leaders and “Levites” within the temple located at “Jerusalem”. God was on the move, and He was using these men to carry out His work. The people of Israel could do no better than to have Him as the priority of their lives, and when we put Him utmost, our lives are bettered for it. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire to follow His lead and obey Him in whatever ministry He gives us in His Kingdom.
Next time Ezra says, “then we departed from the river of Ahava”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
