On the Fourth Day - Ezra 8:33

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shared how, “we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-three of Ezra, Ezra shared what happened, “on the fourth day” where we read,

Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

The verse reads, “Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest;” Ezra began with the words, “now on the fourth day” which means “upon the fourth sunrise to sunset” “was the silver and the gold” or “the silver metal and the gold metal” “and the vessels” which means “as well as the articles, implements and utensils” “weighed in the house” or “paid out, presented and put forth within the habitation, abode and dwelling place” “of our God” which means “belonging to our, Ezra's, the chief men and the Nethinims', Supreme Deity” “by the hand of Meremoth” or “through the power, might and authority belonging to Meremoth whose name means elevations and was a priest, son of Uriah of the family of Koz active in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and in the 7th course of temple service in the time of Ezra and Nehemiah” “the son of Uriah the priest” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Uriah whose name means Jehovah is my light and was the spiritual leader and spokesman”. Ezra shared how the “silver and gold metals” as well as the implements for the temple of Jehovah God were delivered by the power of “Meremoth” who was the male offspring of “Uriah” the spiritual leader. 

The verse continues, “and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;” Ezra added the words, “and with him” which means “and alongside and accompanying Meremoth” “was Eleazar” which means “existed Eleazar whose name means God has helped” “the son of Phinehas” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Phinehas whose name means mouth of brass”; “and with them” which means “and alongside and accompanying them, Meremoth and Eleazar” “was Jozabad” or “existed Jozabad whose name means Jehovah has endowed” “the son of Jeshua” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Jeshua whose name means he is saved”, “and Noadiah” or “and Noadiah whose name means meeting with Jehovah” “the son of Binnui” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Binnui whose name means built up”, “Levites” or “the descendants of Levi whose name means joined to and was specially set aside by God for His service”.Ezra shared how “Eleazar, Jozabad, Noadiah and the Levites” were also among the spiritual ministers to whom the silver, gold and articles in the temple were presented. 

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about the actual delivery of the “silver, gold and implements” which were to be used in the reestablishing of worship in the temple located within Jerusalem. Jehovah God's plan was coming together, and these people were being used to carry out His desires. God also wants us to be involved in His Kingdom, and for this reason He gave His Son Jesus to the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us an opportunity to be involved in worship that will not only bless Jehovah God, but will also bring us in to a favorable relationship with Him.
