Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel - Ezra 8:5

In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, “These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king. Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershom: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush. Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty. Of the sons of Pahathmoab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males”, and in chapter eight and verse five of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel” where we read,

Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

The verse reads, Of the sons of Shechaniah;” Ezra began with the words, “of the sons” which means “from the male offspring, progeny and family” “of Shechaniah” or “belonging to Shechaniah whose name means dweller with Jehovah”. Ezra mentioned the male offspring of “Shechaniah” who were among the “chief men” who returned to “Jerusalem” with him.

The verse goes on to say, the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males. Ezra continued with the words, “the son” which means “the male offspring, progeny and family” of Jahaziel or “belonging to Jahaziel whose name means beheld of God”, “and with him three hundred males” which means “and alongside Jahaziel were three hundred male human beings”. Ezra shared how the male offspring of “Jahaziel” and “three hundred other males” also went back to “Jerusalem” with him.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra about more of the “chief men” who returned to “Jerusalem” with him. “The male offspring of Shechaniah, and the male offspring of Jahaziel” went back to “Jerusalem”, and he was accompanied by “three hundred other male human beings. God was bringing back His people to their homeland, and one by one each of these “chief men” were being mentioned by Him in His word. God knows everyone, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include us in the “names” that are recorded which will allow us to live with Him forever. (Luke 10:20)

Next time Ezra shares about, “Adin and Ebed”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
