Moreover of Israel - Ezra 10:25

In the book of Ezra, Ezra began to name the offspring of the children of Israel who put away their strange wives by listing, the sons of Immer; Harim and Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah; Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer; Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-five of Ezra, Ezra added “moreover of Israel”, where we read,

Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.

The verse reads, Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh;” Ezra began with the words, “Moreover of Israel” or “belonging to Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name for the descendants and the nation of descendants of Jacob”: “of the sons” which means “pertaining to the male offspring and progeny” “of Parosh” or “belonging to Parosh whose name means flea”. Ezra shared how more of the men of “Israel” including the male offspring of “Parosh” who married pagan foreign wives and put them away.

The verse continues, Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah. Ezra added the word, “Ramiah” whose name means “Jehovah has loosened”, “and Jeziah” or “Jehovah sprinkles”, “and Malchiah” or “Malchijah” which means “my king is Jehovah”, “and Miamin” or “from the right hand”, “and Eleazar”which means “God has helped”, “and Malchijah” or “Malchiah” “my king is Jehovah” “and Benaiah” which means “Jehovah has built or Yahweh has built up”. Ezra said “Ramiah, Jeziah, Malchiah, Miamin, Eleazar, Malchijah and Benaiah” were among the “sons of Parosh” who put away their “strange wives”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Ezra more of the men from “Israel” who violated God's way for marriage among their people. Because these men, including the sons of Parosh, had married pagan women, they brought reproach upon Israel, and now the men were turning away from their wives. “ Ramiah, Jeziah, Malchiah, Miamin, Eleazar, Malchijah and Benaiah” were among the men who obeyed Jehovah God through Ezra to separate from their wives, and in the same manner, God calls upon us to put away worldly and sinful ways in our lives. Because we all have sinful ways, (See Romans 3:23) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that which He reveals.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the sons of Elam”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
