The Weight Written at that Time - Ezra 8:34

In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, Now on the fourth day was the silver and the gold and the vessels weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites”, and in chapter eight and verse thirty-four of Ezra, Ezra shared about, “the weight was written at that time” where we read,

By number and by weight of every one: and all the weight was written at that time.

The verse reads, By number and by weight of every one:” Ezra began with the words, “by number” which means “through the means of a tale, accounting and numbering” “and by weight” or “and through the means of heaviness” “of every one” which means “pertaining to each, the whole and all of the silver, gold and articles”. Ezra shared how the “number” and heaviness of the “silver, gold and vessels” was accounted for and recorded.

The verse goes on to say, and all the weight was written at that time. Ezra continued with the words, “and all the weight” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the heaviness” “was written” which means “was inscribed, engraved and recorded” “at that time” or “in that occurrence and occasion”. Ezra shared how the full “weight”of the “silver, gold and vessels” was recorded during that occurrence.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Ezra how the “number and weight” of the silver, gold and articles for the temple were accounted for after they were presented to those in charge. Every detail was to be noted, and when we consider that God was sending all these things through men, an accurate record was necessary. God loves the people of Israel, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, He proved His love toward us as well. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put within us a desire for accuracy and accounting for everything that He has entrusted to us.

Next time Ezra shares about, “the children of those that had been carried away”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
