In the book of Ezra, Ezra said, “These are now the chief of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king. Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershom: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush. Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males an hundred and fifty”, and in chapter eight and verse four of Ezra, Ezra shared about,“Pahathmoab Elihoenai and Zerahiah” where we read,
Of the sons of Pahathmoab; Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.
The verse reads, “Of the sons of Pahathmoab;” Ezra began with the words, “of the sons of Pahathmoab” which means “from the male offspring, progeny and family belonging to Pahathmoab whose name means pit of Moab”. Ezra mentioned the male offspring of “Pahathmoab” who were among the “chief men” who returned to “Jerusalem” with him.
The verse continues, “Elihoenai the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.” Ezra added the word, “Elihoenai” which means “unto Jehovah are my eyes” “the son of Zerahaih” or “the male offspring, progeny and family belonging to Zerahaih whose name means Jehovah has risen”, “and with him” which means “and alongside and accompanying him, Elihoenai” “two hundred males” or “two hundred male human beings”. Ezra included “Elihoenai”who was accompanied by “two hundred” male human beings who went back to “Jerusalem” with him.
When we think through Ezra's words in this verse, we see how he added the male offspring of “Pahathmoab, Elihoenai”who was the male offspring of “Zerahiah” to his list, and “Zerahiah” was accompanied by two hundred other male human beings who went back to “Jerusalem”. Each of these people were known by Jehovah God, and indeed He knows everyone. His desire is to have a personal intimate relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and include us in the “names” which are written in His “book of life” that will give us access to Him for all eternity. (See Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12,15; 21:27; 22:19)
Next time Ezra shares about, “Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
