Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning comes out of the east, and shines even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-eight of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus told His disciples, “wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together” where we read:
For wheresoever the carcass is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
The verse reads, “For wheresoever the carcass is, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “for wheresoever” which means “because, since and on account that in whatever place or location” “the carcass is” which means “a corpse or the fallen body of one dead or slain”. Matthew shared how Jesus referred to the location of the “dead bodies” of those killed in the “great tribulation”.
The verse goes on to say, “... there will the eagles be gathered together.” Matthew continued with the words, “there will the eagles” or “at the location of the dead bodies eagles in wing-like flight will” “be gathered together” or “be assembled and collected together”. Matthew shared how Jesus said “eagles” will assemble in the place where the “dead bodies” lie.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we imagine the horror of millions and millions of people being “killed” because of the massive amount of troubles and difficulties upon the earth. The “great tribulation” will cause so many people to die that “eagles” will be assembled to consume their flesh. Jesus, who is eternal, was able to see these things before they occur, and His desire is to “save” people from these horrific events. By receiving Jesus Christ, God's Son, and a personal “Savior and Lord”, He will provide an escape from these things, but woe be to those who reject Jesus and become a part of the greatest gathering of eagles there shall ever be.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus talks about, “the sun, the moon, the stars and the powers of the heavens”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
