Five Wise and Five Foolish Virgins - Matthew 25:2

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse two of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said, “five of them were wise, and five were foolish” where we read:

And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

The verse reads, And five of them were wise, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “and five of them” which means “and five of the virgins” “were wise” or “were intelligent, prudent and mindful of one's interest”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples “five” of the “virgins” were “intelligent and prudent”.

The verse goes on to say, “... and five were foolish.” Matthew continued with Jesus' words, “and five” or “and five of the virgins” “were foolish” which means “were impious, dull, stupid, heedless, blockheaded and absurd”. Matthew shared how Jesus said “five” of the “virgins” were “impious and absurd”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus declared the “ten virgins” to be in “two” groups. Those who paid attention to and cared for their position were considered “wise”, and those who did not prepare were considered “foolish”. God desires every person to be “wise” in their decision to “receive” His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, and those who accept Him shall align themselves with the “five virgins” who were “intelligent, prudent and mindful of one's interest” concerning their future.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus says, “they that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
