Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse six of his book Matthew writes how Jesus shared, “you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars” where we read:
And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that you be not troubled:
for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
The verse reads, “And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars:” Matthew began with the words, “and you shall hear of” which means “Jesus' disciples will be endowed with the faculty of hearing, comprehending and having knowledge of ” “wars” or “fights, battles, disputes, strife and quarrels” “and rumors of wars” which means “and hearsay and reports of fights, battles, disputes, strife and quarrels”. Matthew shared how Jesus said another “sign” of His coming and the “end of the world” would be the breakout and “reports of battles”.
The verse goes on to say, “see that you be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. ”. Matthew continued with the words, “see that you” which means “Jesus' disciples should take heed, beware, care for and discern clearly that they” “be not troubled” or “not be frightened, alarmed or wail and clamor”: “for” which means “because, since and on account that” “all these things” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the events and occurrences about which Jesus is speaking” “must come to pass” which means “has to come into existence, begin and happen”, “but the end” or “nevertheless and nonetheless the completion, finish, termination and limit at which the world ceases to be” “is not yet” or “is not hitherto or passed”. Matthew shared how Jesus said His disciples should not be “frightened and alarmed” by the things He is telling them because the “end or completion” of all things will not happen at that time.
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus told His disciples some very awful and awesome news concerning future events, and He reassured them to not be “afraid” because the “end” of all things would not happen yet. Jesus knows the future, and because He does, He wants all people, everywhere, to align with Him through “trust and faith” in His “salvation”. Those who are wise shall consider these “wars and rumors of wars” and ask themselves whether these things are coming to pass today. If these things are examined thoroughly, those who investigate them will run to “safety” that is found in Jesus and never need to “be afraid”.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus warns that, “nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
