The Foolish Make a Request of the Wise - Matthew 25:8

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps”, and in chapter twenty-five and verse eight of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said, “the foolish said unto the wise” where we read:

And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

The verse reads, And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil;” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “and the foolish” which refers to “the five virgins who were impious, dull, stupid, heedless, blockheaded and absurd “said” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto the wise” which means “to the virgins who were intelligent, prudent and mindful of one's interest”, “Give us” or “bestow, grant and deliver to the five foolish virgins” “of your oil” which refers to “of the five wise virgins' fuel for their lamps”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “five foolish virgins” asked the “five wise virgins” for some of their “fuel” for their “lamps”.

The verse goes on to say, “for our lamps are gone out.” Matthew continued with Jesus' words, “for our lamps” which means “because, since and on account that the five foolish virgins flames which are fed with oil” “are gone out” which means “are extinguished and quenched”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the “lights or fires within the lamps of the five foolish virgins” were “extinguished”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see the how the “five foolish virgins” were in great need as the “bridegroom” arrived. Their lack of preparation has them in dire straights, and they needed to beg for more “fuel”. Like Noah in the Old Testament, when the flood came, people were outside of the ark begging for Noah to let them in, but it was too late. The time to receive God's Son and Messiah Jesus is now, and those who prepare for His appearing well in advance of His coming will be ready, but those who do not yield shall find themselves desiring to have “oil” in their “lamps” and will be in great want.

Next time Matthew writes how Jesus shares how, “the wise answered, saying, not so, lest there be not enough for us and you”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
