Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man comes. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them meat in due season?Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse forty-seven of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus shares how the lord, “shall make him ruler over all his goods” where we read:
Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
The verse reads, “Verily I say unto you, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “verily” which means “truly and surely” “I say” which means “Jesus utters, declares and proclaims” “unto you” or “to His disciples”. Matthew shared how Jesus certified to His disciples what He was going to say next.
The verse goes on to say, “... That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.” Matthew added Jesus' words, “that he shall make him” or “that the lord of the servant will appoint, constitute, declare and show to be” “ruler” which means “overseer and designated one” “over all” or “above each, every, the whole and all” “his goods” which means “the master's possessions, wealth and property”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the master would make the “faithful and wise” servant the overseer of everything He has.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see the benefit to those who will be “faithful and wise” over God's people and gospel. God's “good news” is that “salvation” is available to everyone through His Son Jesus, and because He died for their “sins”, when they “have faith and trust” in Him, they shall live eternally with God. Those who manage the “good news” of God well shall not only be “blessed” by Him, but also shall be given the authority to “rule” over all His goods. May all who read these words hear, understand, obey and be blessed by Almighty God.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus referred to the “evil servant” “saying in his heart”, “my lord delays his coming”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
