Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man comes. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them meat in due season?Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming. And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse fifty-one of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus shares how the lord, “shall cut him asunder” and “there shall be weeping an gnashing of teeth” where we read:
And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites:
there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
The verse reads, “And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites:” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “and shall cut him asunder” which means “will employ the cruel method of punishment used by the Hebrews and others of cutting one in two, scourging or beating severely”, “and appoint him” which means “and put and place the evil servant toward” “his portion” or “the evil servant's part and course” “with the hypocrites” which refers to “alongside the stage players, dissemblers and pretenders”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the master of the “evil servant” will punish him with the same penalty the “stage players and pretenders” receive.
The verse goes on to say, “there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Matthew continued with Jesus' words, “there shall be weeping” or “in the place where Jesus spoke people will be wailing and lamenting” “and gnashing of teeth” which means “and the snarling, growling and a sense of biting with teeth”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the place where the “evil servant” resides will be infiltrated with people who are “sobbing convulsively and grinding their teeth”.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we learn how horrific this final destination and judgement is for the “evil servant”. The “evil servant” is “appointed with the hypocrites” to a place where pain and suffering is so horrific that those who dwell there “sob convulsively” and continually “grind their teeth” in anguish. This is a place God desires for no one to go, however, many will because they refuse to receive His Son Jesus Christ to “save” their souls. Those who are reading these words should consider carefully what Jesus has said concerning “evil servants” and yield their lives to Him before His sudden return and judgment appears.
Next time we begin a new chapter Matthew writes how Jesus says, “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
