Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken. And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-one of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus declared the Son of man, “shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet” where we read:
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
The verse reads, “And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, ...” Matthew began with Jesus' words, “and he shall send” which means “and Jesus, the Son of man, shall discharge and dismiss” “his angels” which means “Jesus' messengers, servants and attendants” “with a great sound” which refers to “a large and massive tone and noise” “of a trumpet” or “belonging to a reverberating trumpet instrument”. Matthew shared how Jesus said He will discharge His messengers with a loud “trumpet” blast.
The verse continues, “and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matthew added the words, “and they shall gather together” or “Jesus' angels will assemble and collect” “his elect together” or “Jesus' chosen and picked out ones” “from the four winds” which refers to “from the location of the four winds or north, east, south and west”, “from one end of heaven” which means “from the farthest bounds and uttermost, highest and extreme parts of the aerial heavens or sky, the region where the clouds and the tempests gather and where thunder and lightning are produced” “to the other” or “to the opposite side of the aerial heavens or sky, the region where the clouds and the tempests gather, and where thunder and lightning are produced”. Matthew shared how Jesus declared His “angels' responsibility” will be to assemble His “chosen ones” from one side of the world to the other.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we discover how Jesus will charge His “messengers” to assemble His “elect” ones from all over the world. Jesus has believers scattered throughout the earth, and when they submit their lives to Him, even during the great tribulation where all heaven and earth are affected, He shall gather them to Himself. God desires to “save” every person through His Son Jesus, and all that is necessary is to have a personal relationship with Him is to “acknowledge and turn from sin, ask God for forgiveness, believe in His Son Jesus' sacrificial payment on the cross for those sins, and receive Him as “Savior and Lord”. The one who believes shall be “saved” and receive “everlasting, eternal life” from God. Let all who read Jesus' words know and understand.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus tells His disciples to, “learn a parable of the fig tree”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
