Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso reads, let him understand:) Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse seventeen of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus said for the person who is “on the housetop” not to, “come down to take any thing out of his house” where we read:
Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
The verse reads, “Let him which is on the housetop ...” Matthew began with the word, “let him” “allow and permit the person whether male or female” “which is on” or “who is upon or positioned over” “the housetop” which means “the roof or top of a building”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed any person who was on top of a roof to do the following.
The verse goes on to say “... not come down to take any thing out of his house:” Matthew added Jesus' words, “not come down” or “not and in now way to descend or step down from the roof” “to take any thing out of” which means “to draw up, bear or carry away a certain thing from” “his house” or “that person's dwelling place, habitation and abode”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed any person who is on his rooftop not to descend from their roof to retrieve any of their household belongings.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we discover Jesus' urgent instruction to those who are living just before His coming and the end of the world. This time He directs all who are of the top of their homes not to go down from the roof to carry anything out of their houses. God knows everything that will happen toward the end of the world, and when He instructs people, they should follow what He says. God desires to have a relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will yield their lives to Him and obey His word. May all who read hear and understand the instructions of the Lord.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus says, “neither let him which is in the field return back”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
