Matthew the apostle wrote how, “Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple. And Jesus said unto them, See you not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world?”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse four of his book Matthew shared how Jesus warned, “take heed that no man deceive you” where we read:
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
The verse reads, “And Jesus answered and said unto them, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus answered” which means “and the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded to the disciples' question” “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto them” which refers to “Jesus' disciples”. Matthew shared how Jesus began to “answer” the disciples' question concerning His coming and the “end of the world”.
The verse goes on to say, “Take heed that no man deceive you.”. Matthew added the words, “take heed” which means “discern, perceive, and have the power of seeing” “that no man” or “that not one person whether male or female” “deceive you” which means “cause the disciples to be lead astray, wander from the truth and be in error”. Matthew shared how Jesus warned His disciples not to be “lead astray” by any person.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we should pay particular attention to that which Jesus is about to declare. The fact that He warns concerning people who would attempt to “deceive” His disciples should let readers know there is the possibility of being “deceived”. Many believe they speak the truth concerning all types of information, especially when it comes to salvation and the afterlife, but only ideas that align with Jesus' words are actually valid. God's way is the “only way”, and Jesus Himself declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the father but by me”. (John 14:6) Those who are wise shall listen to Jesus, seek to understand what He says, and follow after Him. He knows the future of His “coming” and “the end of the world”.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus warns, “many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
