Be You Also Ready - Matthew 24:44

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus told His disciples, “if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse forty-four of his book, Matthew writes how Jesus instructs His disciples, “be you also ready” where we read:

Therefore be you also ready: for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes.

The verse reads, “Therefore be you also ready:” Matthew began with Jesus' word, “therefore” which means “by all means possible” “be you also ready” which means “the disciples of Jesus were to even so and indeed be prepared”. Matthew shared how Jesus instructed His disciples to be prepared like a householder who would be expecting a thief.

The verse continues, “for in such an hour as you think not the Son of man comes.” Matthew added Jesus' word, “for” or “because, since, on account that” “in such an hour” which means “in a similar or certain definite time or season” “as you think not” or “like as the disciples are not expecting” “the Son of man” which means “God's Son Jesus” “comes” or “makes his appearance, comes into the public and shows Himself”. Matthew shared how Jesus said He would return and appear at a time when His disciples were not expecting it.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus charged His disciples to be prepared for His return. Though they did not know when He would return, they were to be ready at all times. God loves people, and He desires for everyone to have a relationship with His Son Jesus Christ so they will have “everlasting life” with Him. Those who are wise will hear and understand Jesus' words and be ready for His imminent return.
