No One But Jesus - Mark 9:8

Mark wrote how Jesus said, “there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power”. Mark continued by writing, “after six days Jesus took with him Peter, and James, and John, and lead them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus. And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. For he did not know what to say; for they were sore afraid. And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him”, and in chapter nine and verse eight of his book, Mark shared how, “they saw no man any more, save Jesus only” where we read:

And suddenly, when they had looked round about,

they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

The verse reads, “And suddenly, when they had looked round about, ...Mark began with the words, “and suddenly” which means “and unexpectedly”, “when they had looked round about” or “at the time Peter, James and John looked all around themselves”. Mark shared at an unexpected time after “the voice” sounded from the cloud, Jesus' disciples looked all around themselves.

The verse continues, ... they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves. Mark added the words, “they saw no man any more” which means “Peter, James and John observed no person any longer”, “save Jesus only” or “except for Jesus alone” “with themselves” which means “along with Peter, James and John”. Mark shared how Peter, James and John no longer saw “Elijah and Moses” after God's voice from the clouds sounded, and only Jesus was with them.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how “Elijah and Moses” disappeared after the “voice” from the clouds declared Jesus to be “my beloved Son”. Once again, there was an order to the plan of “salvation” of man, and when “Elijah and Moses” were finished speaking with Jesus, they were gone. God loves people so much that He sent His Son Jesus to pay the price for their sins so they may live with Him forever. When a person has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, they are in alignment with what God requires for entrance into heaven. No other person can meet that standard, and even “Elijah and Moses” cannot help a person to “enter in” to God's eternal Kingdom.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus “charged” His disciples, “that they should tell no man what things they had seen”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
