Mark wrote how Jesus spoke about end of the age and said, “in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he has chosen, he has shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not. For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect. But take you heed: behold, I have foretold you all things. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-five of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken” where we read:
And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
The verse reads, “And the stars of heaven shall fall, ...” Mark began with the words, “and the stars” or “and the stars as strewn over the sky” “of heaven” which means “of the vaulted expanse of the sky with all the things visible in it” “shall fall” or “will be cast down, driven out of course and drop”. Mark shared how Jesus said “the stars” within the “sky” will fall away from their “driven courses”.
The verse continues, “... and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.” Mark added the words, “and the powers” which means “and the strengths, abilities, influences and forces” “that are in heaven” or “which are in the vaulted expanse of the sky with all the things visible in it” “shall be shaken” or “will be agitated, totter, be moved and disturbed”. Mark shared how Jesus said even the “strengths, influences and forces” in “heaven” will be “moved and agitated”.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “sky” will be affected during this awful time of tribulation upon the earth. When the affliction of “the days” arrives of which Jesus spoke, even the “stars” and “powers” above will be affected by them. God created the universe, and it is all in His control. He sent His Son Jesus not only to warn people concerning these future events, but also to “save” them from their “sins” to be protected by Him and receive “everlasting life”. “Heaven and Earth” will be greatly troubled during these times, and only those who receive Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will receive God's eternal protection and provision. Let all who read these words understand and believe.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
