Mark wrote how Jesus instructed His disciples to, “learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you in like manner, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.” Jesus continued with the words, “Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done”, and in chapter thirteen and verse thirty-one of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “my words shall not pass away”, where we read:
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
The verse reads, “Heaven and earth shall pass away:” Mark began with the word, “Heaven” or “the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “and earth” which means “and the arable land, ground, country and land within fixed boundaries” “shall pass away” or “will be averted and perish”. Mark shared how both the “heaven and earth” will “perish”, but not that of which Jesus speaks next.
The verse goes on to say, “... but my words shall not pass away.” Mark continued with Jesus saying, “but my words” which means “however, nevertheless, notwithstanding, moreover and Jesus' speech, uttered conceptions and ideas, decrees, mandates and moral precepts” “shall not pass away” or “will not be averted or perish”. Mark shared how Jesus said His “words” will never “perish”.
When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' concepts and ideas will never “pass away”, and even though the “heaven and earth” perish, His words never will. God has the words of “eternal life”, and He provided them through His Son Jesus who died upon the cross for the sins of all mankind. He was raised three days later, and anyone who puts their faith and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be “saved”. Those who do not will forever and ever be separated from God and exist in eternal darkness and everlasting hell.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
