The Guest Chamber for Passover - Mark 14:14

Mark wrote, “ And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where will you that we go and prepare that you may eat the passover? And he sent forth two of his disciples, and said unto them, Go you into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him”, and in chapter fourteen and verse fourteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus tells His disciples to ask the man, “where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? where we read:

And wheresoever he shall go in, say you to the goodman of the house, The Master said, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

The verse reads, “And wheresoever he shall go in, say you to the goodman of the house, ...” Mark began with the words, “and wheresoever” which means “and in whatever location and place” “he shall go in” which means “the man with the pitcher of water enters”, “say you to the goodman” or “utter, declare and proclaim to the head of the family, the householder and master” “of the house” which means “belonging to that dwelling place, abode and habitation”. Mark shared how Jesus told His “two disciples” whatever place the “man bearing the pitcher of water” entered, they were to ask the “householder” the following question.

The verse goes on to say, “... The Master said, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? Mark continued with the words, “the Master said” which means “the teacher and instructor uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked”, “where is the guest-chamber” or “in what place and location exists the eating or dining room and place of lodging”, “where I shall eat” which means “about which Jesus will consume and devour” “the passover” or “the paschal sacrificial lamb” “with my disciples” which means “alongside Jesus' students, pupils and attendants”? Mark shared how His “two disciples” were to question the “householder” as to where the “eating and dining room” was located so He could “eat” the “passover lamb” with His “students and pupils”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus knew the man bearing the pitcher of water would lead them to a house where they were to ask the “householder” where the “eating and dining” room was located because He intended to “eat the passover” with His “disciples” in that place. The plan was being fulfilled, and Jesus was walking through it step by step. As He sent out His disciples, He knew the time had come for Him to walk the path to the cross. Mankind was separated from God by their “sins”, and because God is Holy, a sacrifice for their sins had to be offered. Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross so that all who believe and trust in Him will not only receive “everlasting life”, but also have a personal and intimate relationship with God.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “he will show you a large upper room furnished”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
