Mark wrote how Jesus toward the end of the age, “you shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. But when you shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that reads understand), then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains”, and in chapter thirteen and verse fifteen of his book, Mark shared how Jesus said, “let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house” where we read:
And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house,
neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
The verse reads, “And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, ...” Mark began with the words, “and let him” or “and allow and permit the person” “that is on the housetop” which means “who is upon the roof or top of the house or abode” “not go down” or “not descend or come down” “into the house” which means “to the inside of their homes, abodes and dwelling places”. Mark shared how Jesus said people who are on the top of their roofs of their houses should not go down to the inside of them when the “abomination of desolation” appears.
The verse continues, “neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:” Mark added the words, “neither enter therein” which means “no and not in any way make entrance, arise or appear within them”, “to take any thing” or “to lift, elevate or raise up any certain thing” “out of his house” which means “from their abodes or dwelling places”. Mark shared how anyone who was in Judaea at the time of the “abomination of desolation” should not “enter” into their homes to “carry away any thing” they own from out of it.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see the urgency Jesus gave to His disciples and people concerning not entering their homes to collect belongings when they perceive the “abomination of desolation” has taken place. Great troubles will begin when this event occurs (See Revelation 13), and all who are within the city of Judaea should not even take the time to gather their belongings before they “flee”. God knows about all these things in advance, and those who are wise will cling to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” so they may escape them before they come to pass.
Next time Mark shares how Jesus says, “let him that is in the field not turn back again”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
